Story #14

One time this happened...

I stepped out into the pouring rain, coffee-less and already in a bad mood. I had just spilled coffee grounds all over my shirt, and now my favorite pair of shoes were soaked. The sky was a deep, foreboding grey, like the universe itself was against me.

As I walked to the bus stop, I felt the rain seeping into my bones. People rushed past me, umbrella-clad and determined. It wasn't just the rain that was miserable, it was the whole city. The traffic lights flickered yellow as the rainwater swelled up the sidewalks.

When the bus finally showed up, I practically sprinted on board, my shoes squelching on the cold floor. The air inside was stale and warm, but at least I was dry. As the bus pulled away, I felt a tiny sense of relief – the rain might be terrible, but at least the bus ride would be calm.
