Story #91

One time this happened...

My grandmother has this peculiar habit of hiding an enormous rubber spider under her tea towels when we come to visit. It's this enormous, furry monstrosity with giant, beady eyes that sends a shiver down the spines of both my siblings and me. Every time I enter the house, my heart skips a beat as I frantically scan her countertops, terrified this eight-legged menace might pounce – I've never actually seen it move, but imagination is a cruel mistress. My grandmother finds great amusement in our fear; she'll nonchalantly place it atop a cake or beside a steaming cup of tea just to gauge our reaction. My mom claims it's part of some sort of twisted grandparent tradition, but whatever its origins may be, I'm not buying – I just want a grandma sans creepy arachnid companions.
